Former Residence of Gu Yanwu

The Former Residence of Gu Yanwu is located within the national 4A-level Tourist Attraction of Qiandeng Ancient Town, a charming historical and cultural town in China. With an area of 4 hectares and a floor area of 5,450 m2, it is the largest residence established in Qiandeng during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Settled in the west and facing east, the residence features a traditional Chinese architectural design with five courtyards. In order from east to west, the courtyards include the Water Wall Gate, Entrance Hall, Qing Hall (tea house), Ming Hall (main hall built of Phoebe zhennan), and Residential Building. In the north, a narrow pathway leads to the kitchen, study, and rear garden. The residence connects to the millennium-old flagstone alleyway in the front and Gu Yanwus tomb and Guyuan Garden in the back.

This scenic spot primarily showcases Gu Yanwus daily life and learning scenarios, with each hall displaying his sculptures, handwriting, works, life stories, and later generations’ research findings on his masterpieces.
