Located in the southeast of Qiandeng Town, Xiemaqiao Village enjoys a strategic position with convenient transportation. It borders Qingpu District of Shanghai to the east and is adjacent to Suhong Jichang Road to the west, with the Suzhou-Shanghai Expressway running through it.
Steeped in history, the village derives its name from the renowned general Han Shizhong of Southern Song Dynasty, who stationed his troops here. Xiemaqiao Village is also the birthplace of Kunshan’s intangible cultural heritage “Shipu Lamb” and Qiandeng’s “Tea tray Dance.” The village preserves over 5,000 square meters of Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture, a 500-meter-long ancient stone street, and two centuries-old trees. A “dragon-shaped waterway” weaves through the village, making it a picturesque destination that attracted over 180,000 visitors in 2023.
In recent years, Xiemaqiao Village has embraced the integration of agriculture, culture, business, and tourism. It has developed a thriving agritourism industry focused on the deep processing of specialty products such as Red Beauty mandarins, selenium-rich rice, Hongguanzhuang deer-based biologicals, Shipu white-cut lamb, and smart hydroponic vegetables. The village has introduced plenty of cultural and leisure stores engaging Guqin (Chinese zither), Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing), accommodation, tea, and dining. Signature events like “Village Café,” local markets, and creative traffic-generating initiatives are part of its high-level vision to create a modern “Suzhou Prosperity Map” for the new era.
