The Hou Beiren Art Museum is located in Langhuan Park, in the heart of Kunshan. The open park is filled with towering trees and lush green lawns, offering a pleasant environment.
The museum is named after Mr. Hou Beiren, a renowned Chinese-American painter who has lived for many years in California, USA. In 2002, Mr. Hou generously donated 300 valuable works to Kunshan, including his own lifelong artistic masterpieces and rare pieces by modern Chinese painting masters such as Zhang Daqian and Fu Baoshi.
Completed and opened to the public in 2004, the museum covers a land area of 2,827 square meters with a total building area of 3,300 square meters. It comprises two exhibition levels. The first floor (Exhibition Hall 1) features a permanent collection of Mr. Hou’s paintings, along with works by Zhang Daqian, Fu Baoshi, and other modern and contemporary Chinese artists. The second floor (Exhibition Halls 2 and 3) is used for rotating exhibitions. The entire museum is equipped with a constant temperature and humidity control system.
The Hou Beiren Art Museum is a modern art institution dedicated to the display of Mr. Hou’s works and the promotion of Chinese splash-ink painting. It integrates functions such as public service, education, collection, exhibition, research, and international exchange. Its collection of works by Zhang Daqian in his overseas period is considered among the finest in publicly run art museums in China.
Another hallmark of the museum is its diverse public education programs, including in-person VIP lectures and hands-on workshops that serve the community and promote artistic appreciation.
